ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (6-0) women's basketball team defeated Nazareth College (2-3) Thursday evening by a score of 75-56 in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout from the Louis Alexander Palestra on the University of Rochester's campus. RIT moves to 6-0 for the second consecutive season.
In the first three minutes RIT scored the first eight points to take control of the game. The Tigers went into the locker room at half time leading 35-22. RIT was never seriously threatened in the second half and led by as many as 23 points with 2:33 remaining in the fourth quarter.
RIT shot 46.2 percent from the floor on 30-of-66 shooting compared to 38.9 percent on 21-of-54 shooting from Nazareth. The Tigers were 4-of-15 from behind the arc and 11-of-14 from the foul line
Tara Lynch (Green Township, NJ/Newton) led five RIT players n double figures with 19 points, she was 8-for-15 from the floor.
Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) tallied 12 points and four assists.
Jessica Glaz (Rockaway Beach, NY/Scholars Academy) notched 11 points, while both
Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) and
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) had 10 points apiece, Wolfe finished with seven rebounds.
Sydney Frank (Haverford, PA/Friends' Central) led the team with eight rebounds and made three steals.
Samantha Peebles led the Golden Flyers with 16 points and four steals, while Demetria Woodard had nine rebounds for Nazareth.
Nazareth leads the all-time series between the two schools 34-15.
RIT returns to the Palestra to wrap up the Marks Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout Saturday at 6 p.m. against St. John Fisher College.
