Women's basketball moves to 5-0 with one-sided win at league foe Union

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The RIT (5-0, 2-0 Liberty League) women's basketball team completed the weekend sweep with a convincing 83-41 win at Union College (2-2, 1-1 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon. The Tigers outscored Bard and Union by a combined score of 167-73 this weekend and have out-scored their opponents by an average of 35.6 points per game in 2017-18.

RIT led 25-9 after the first quarter, and 46-16 at the half. The Tigers tacked on 15 points in the third quarter, and 22 points in the fourth, while allowing the Dutchwomen 25 second-half points. RIT shot 42.4 percent from the floor on 38-of-66 shooting. The Tigers went 9-of-21 from behind the arc, and were 18-of-25 from the foul line.

Freshman Sabrina Wolfe (Troy, NY/Troy) led a balanced scoring attack with 18 points. Cori Okada (Fullerton, CA/Troy) tallied 13 points, while Brooke Stanley (Minnetonka, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's) scored 10 points off the bench. In all, 12 different Tigers scored Saturday. Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) led RIT with 10 rebounds, while Jessica Shields (Lyons, NY/Newark) had three steals.

Sophie Borg and Kolby McKenzie led Union with eight points apiece. Corina Lindsay grabbed six rebounds for the Dutchwomen who shot 32.0 percent from the floor.

RIT scored 36 of its 83 points in the paint, and held a 47-30 rebounding edge. The Tigers scored 18 second-chance points off of 18 offensive rebounds, while tallying 34 points off of 24 Union turnovers. RIT scored 39 points off the bench.

It is the second straight season RIT has won its first five games. The Tigers won their first eight games last season.

RIT returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 7 when the Tigers face Nazareth College at the University of Rochester in the opening game of the 2017 Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Classic at 6 p.m.
