Pierre-Louis hits buzzer beater to lift men's basketball to win at Union

ROCHESTER, NY -- Senior guard Troy-Pierre Louis drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the RIT men's basketball team (4-2, 2-0 Liberty League) a thrilling 65-62 win at Union College (3-3, 1-1 Liberty League) Saturday afternoon. With two seconds to play in regulation, Pierre-Louis took a pass and hoisted a three from just over half court that found the bottom of the net.

Pierre-Louis led RIT with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) added 13 points, while Jaymee Rosser (Newark, NY/Newark) tallied 11 points. Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) tallied nine points and led the Tigers with eight rebounds. RIT shot 36.9 percent from the floor on 24-of-65 shooting. The Tigers went 10-of-21 from behind the arc, and were 7-of-8 from the foul line.

Greg King led Union with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Weckworth tallied 14 points, while Brendan Laing added 10 points for the Dutchmen who shot 39.7 percent from the floor.

RIT trailed 38-31 at the half, shooting 37.5 percent from the floor. The Tigers led by six early in the game when Rosser converted a pair of free throws at the 13:59 mark. Union answered back and took a 22-21 lead on a 3-pointer from King with 8:11 to play. Matt Liquori gave the Dutchmen their biggest lead of the half on his bucket with 35 seconds to play to give Union a 38-31 halftime lead.

The Dutchmen extended their lead to 12 points early in the second half on a 3-pointer from Liquori off an assist from Kevin McNoble.

The Tigers answered with 22-8 run, taking a 53-51 lead on a 3-pointer from Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) with 10:31 to play in regulation. Pierre-Louis had 10 of RIT's 22 points in the run, including a 3-pointer to pull the Tigers to within a point. Each team would swap the lead back and forth over the closing minutes of regulation. King gave the Dutchmen a 60-58 lead with his free throws with 5:36 to play. Aguilera tied the game at 60-60 with his free throws with 3:28 remaining.

Rosser gave RIT a short-lived lead on his bucket with 41 seconds to play that gave the Tigers a 62-60 lead, but Laing answered right back with his bucket with 26 seconds remaining. That set up Pierre-Louis' game-winner. Off a Union turnover, Marcell Davis (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's Institute) inbounded the ball to Pierre-Louis who turned and fired the game-winner from just over half court.

RIT tallied 22 points in the paint, and 13 points off of 13 Union turnovers.

RIT returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 7 when the Tigers host Nazareth College at 8 p.m. in the Second Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Classic.
