ALFRED, NY- The RIT men's basketball team (1-1) fell to Alfred University (3-0) by a score of 76-65 Tuesday evening from Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
RIT shot 41 percent from the floor on 25-of-61 shooting. The Tigers made 7-of-16 from behind the arc and went 8-for-12 from the foul line.
Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) led the Tigers with 18 points, draining four 3-pointers.
Jaymee Rosser (Newark, NY/Newark) had nine points, while
Robert Aguilera (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) notched eight points and led the team with five blocks to go along with seven rebounds.
Sage Brown led Alfred with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, Nick Schmidt had 17 points, draning a trio of 3-pointers.
Alfred University took the lead in the first half until Lewis took two free throws to take the lead 7-6. The lead changed six more times in the first half until
Charles Okehie (Owing Mills, MD/McDonogh) made a layup with just under four minutes to go in the first to take the lead. RIT would go into the locker room up 32-29.
In the second Alfred took the lead 40-37 in the first five minutes and never gave it up. The closest RIT got to tying the game was with a layup from
Will Atkinson (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) who made it 52-49.
RIT leads the all-time series with Alfred University 62-36. The Tigers and Saxons were former rivals in the Empire 8 Conference.
The Tigers are back in action Nov. 25-26 when they host the Harold J. Brodie Tournament. RIT takes on D'Youville at 8 p.m. Saturday and either Oberlin College or SUNY Cobleskill Sunday at either 1 p.m. or 3 p.m.
