Volleyball drops home finale to Liberty League for Skidmore

ROCHESTER, NY – the RIT women's volleyball team (13-15, 2-5 Liberty League) dropped its final home match of the season to Liberty League rival Skidmore College (15-9, 4-3 Liberty League) in four sets on Saturday afternoon at Clark Gym. With the win, Skidmore advances to the Liberty League Tournament as the No. 4 seed. RIT is eliminated from postseason play with the loss.
 
The Tigers started off strong, winning the first set with 16 kills to earn a 25-21 victory. Skidmore would respond, taking the the last three sets. 25-14, 25-21, 25-12 to win the match.
 
"We started off well, but as the match progressed we were a little less assertive and allowed Skidmore to get into their rhythm," said RIT head coach Jim Lodes. "We still had stretches of competing and when we stayed in the moment, we usually enjoyed good results."

RIT had 44 kills to 41 by Skidmore, but committed 33 hitting errors.
 
RIT's Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) led all players with 17 kills to go along with 12 digs and a team-high four assisted blocks, Sarah DelVecchio (Galway, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) hit .304 with 10 kills and three blocks. Joelle Marston (Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) and Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) combined for 16 kills. Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) led the Tigers with 39 assists and 12 digs. Paige Daly (Allison Park, PA/Hampton) added 11 digs and two service aces.
 
Skidmore's Caite Canfield had 12 kills, while Bailey Hutchins had 11 kills and five service aces. Lauren Wolters led the team with 37 assists while Katy Ehnstrom had ten kills and a hitting percentage of .400.
 
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools 12-10.
 
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 24, traveling to The College at Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles at 6 pm.
