Volleyball suffers three-set road loss at The College at Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY – The RIT women's volleyball team (13-16) fell on the road in three sets to The College at Brockport (20-8) Tuesday evening from Jim and John Vlogiantis Gymnasium.  
 
In set one RIT and Brockport went back and forth between points. The lead changed a total of six times between the two teams. Brockport scored four points in a row at the end of the set to win, 25-22. Brockport took set two, 25-8. In set three, RIT took an early lead until Brockport scored five in a row to earn a 9-6 edge. RIT rallied to keep it tight throughout, eventually tying it at 24-24, before a pair of DeAnna Whittemore kills sealed the set and match for Brockport, 26-24.
 
Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) led the Tigers in kills with 10 and a hitting percentage of .350, while Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) had eight kills to go along with three service aces and seven digs. Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) had 22 assists, eight digs as well as three service aces. Kirstie Wehler (Saint Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) also had eight digs and three kills on the night, while Joelle Marston (Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) added five kills.
 
Whittemore led Brockport with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .320. Noelle Poloncarz had 24 assists on the evening to go with her nine digs.  Maddy Taylor had three service aces and Jamie Schlesinger also finished with nine digs.

"We played really well and competed in the first set," said RIT head coach Jim Lodes. "Set two was completely different. We're proud of the fight we had again in set three. We competed with confidence and energy. We hope we'll bring that demeanor to the court this weekend."

Brockport also defeated RIT in four sets at the RIT Invitational on Oct. 13.
 
The Tigers return to action Friday Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28, wrapping up the season at the New York State Regional Challenge on the campus of The University of Rochester. The Tigers compete against SUNY Cortland Friday night at 8 p.m. to start the weekend tournament.
