Volleyball loses to SUNY Cortland at New York State Challenge

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's volleyball team (13-17) fell to SUNY Cortland (13-14) in four sets Friday evening at the University of Rochester campus on day one of the New York Regional Challenge.
 
Set one started out with a 5-1 run from Cortland who kept the lead the whole way, winning 25-14. In the second set, the lead changed a total of ten times. The Tigers led 23-20 until the Red Dragons had three straight kills and a service ace to clinch the 25-23 set victory. RIT led the entire third set winning 25-17 sending the match into a fourth set. The Red Dragons took the lead in the fourth set and never looked back, winning 25-16.
 
Sarah Taylor led the Tigers with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .256. Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) had nine kills to go along with three service aces and nine digs. Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) had 34 assists to go along with her three service aces and eleven digs. Rebecca Bennett (Springfield, PA/Springfield) led the team with 12 digs and finished the night with three digs.
 
Nadia Moore led the Red Dragons with seven kills and had nine digs. Gabby Amelio had six service aces, 25 assists and five digs. Sarah Placentini led Cortland with ten digs.

"We are still working on our consistency," said RIT head coach Jim Lodes. "As we continue to trust the process, we'll continue to grow as a team."
 
RIT wraps up the 2017 season on Saturday as part of the New York Regional Challenge, taking on Montclair State University at 12:30 p.m. and New York University at 2:30 p.m.
