ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's swimming and diving team got the 2017-18 season underway on Saturday hosting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as part of the university's Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend. The Tigers fell 203-97 to the Engineers at Judson Pool on the campus of RIT.
Amy Adams (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy), a 2017 NCAA Division III Championship participant, won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:09.19.
Katrina Mayer (Bristol, VT/Vergennes Union) finished right behind Adams in second in a time of 1:10.31.
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis), who competed in last year's NCAA Championship, won the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 2:11.42.
In relay action, the team of Zbranak, Adams,
Olivia Phillips (Louisville, CO/Fairview) and
Daylen Smith (Lockwood, NY/Waverly) placed second in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in a time of 1:52.50. The team of
Emily Lederman (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown), Phillips, Smith and
Grace Morales (South Riding, VA/Freedom) placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:51.52.
In diving,
Alaiya Tuntemeke (Livonia, NY/Livonia) was second in the 1-meter competition finishing with a score of 207.20.
Patsy Hayes (San Jose, CA/Abraham Lincoln) was third (195.45), while
Anna Johnson (Knoxville, TN/Farragut) was fourth (181.35). Hayes placed fourth in the 3-meter competition with score of 192.15, and Tuntemeke was fifth with a score of 222.35.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 18 when the Tigers face SUNY Oswego at 6 p.m. in Oswego, NY.
