PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT (6-2-1) men's swimming and diving team defeated Nazareth College (5-4), 157-141 on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers are 3-0-1 in their last four dual meets.
RIT began the meet with a second and third place finish in the 200-meter medley relay. The team of
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods),
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial),
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) and
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) placed second in a time of 1:50.72. The quartet of Nick Genovese,
Dennis Zhou (Antwerp, NY/Indian River),
Daniel Yuen-Schat (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser) and
Jason Cook (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was third in a time of 1:52.83.
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora) and Paine placed first and second in the 200-meter freestyle. Hayes won the event in a time of 2:03.03, while Paine came home second in a time of 2:03.35. O'Gorman, Cook and
Tyler Allen (Newark, NY/Newark) went 1-2-4 in the 50-meter freestyle. O'Gorman won the event in a time of 25.37. Cook came home second in a time of 25.38, while Allen was fourth in a time of 25.93. Paine (54.62), Rothrock (55.90) and Cook (56.65) were 1-2-4, respectively, in the 100-meter freestyle.
In diving action,
Ben Hamilton (Addison, NY/Addison) won the 1-meter competition with a score of 271.50.
Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) was second with a score of 267.00. Dieroff won the 3-meter competition with a score of 281.10, and Hamitlon was second with a score of 244.55.
The Tigers closed out the meet with a win in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The team of Paine, Hayes, Rothrock and O'Gorman finished first in a time of 3:39.40.
RIT is off until the UNYSCSA Championships that take place from Feb. 15-18 at Ithaca College.
