ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT women's swimming and diving team (7-2) fell 163-130 at the University of Rochester (10-2) Saturday afternoon. The Tigers had their six-match winning streak snapped.
The Tigers won four individual events and one relay event. As individuals,
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis),
Emily Lederman (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown), and
Genevieve Senecal (Westfield, MA/Westfield) won events for RIT. Zbranak took first in the two backstroke events — first the 100-yard (59.69), and then the 200-yard (2:11.14). Lederman was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley, with a time of 2:20.10, while Senecal won the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:01.39.
The Tigers took a consecutive first, second, and third in two events. On the individual side,
Amy Adams (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) (2:24.49) and
Rachel Kobel (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) (2:24.62) followed Lederman in the 200-yard individual medley, by taking second and third, accordingly.
On the team side, RIT took top three in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Senecal, Lederman,
Daylen Smith (Lockwood, NY/Waverly), and Zbranak took first place with a time of 1:42.69.
Olivia Phillips (Louisville, CO/Fairview),
Rachel Kobel (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen),
Brenna Woodling (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East), and Katie Mayer were second, swimming a 1:45.84. In third was the foursome of
Sarah Evans (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), Addy Maykish,
Sydney Kraeger (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta), and
Megan Hawkes (Franklinville, NJ/Gloucester County), with a time of 1:54.63.
The Tigers also found success on the team side in the first event of the meet. RIT took second and third in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Woodling, Adams, Senecal, and Zbranak finished exactly 1:00 behind first, with a time of 1:52.18. The foursome of Lederman,
Megan O'Connor (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts), Hawkes, and Evans were then third, finishing in 1:57.10.
In the 50-yard freestyle, RIT took second and third. Smith was second, as she swam a 26.31, while Mayer was just 0.28 seconds behind, finishing third. Also, in the 200-yard breaststroke, RIT took second and third. Adams added to her successful meet with a second place time of 2:35.22, while O'Connor then placed third, swimming a 2:41.13.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Adams was second, with a time of 1:08.24, while Woodling added a third place finish the event prior, with a 1:02.48 in the 100-yard backstroke. Phillips also added a second place finishing time of 2:03.86 in the 200-yard freestyle.
In diving,
Amanda Drake (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell) was second in both events, scoring 203.55 points in the 1-meter dive, and 207.67 points in the 3-meter competition.
Alaiya Tuntemeke (Livonia, NY/Livonia) was third in the 3-meter dive, with a score of 201.22 in the finals.
Senecal also added a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, as she swam a 2:14.19, while Lederman added a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, with a 56.15.
In the longest events of the afternoon, Maykish took third place. She swam a 5:41.26 in the 500-yard freestyle, and 11:18.00 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 when the Tigers face Nazareth College at 1 p.m. in Pittsford, N.Y. It is the final regular season dual meet for RIT.
