PITTSFORD, NY – The RIT women's tennis team (4-9 1-4 Liberty League) took two singles matches, but fell in a Liberty League contest to Rensselaer (5-7, 2-1 Liberty League), 7-2 at the Mendon Racquet Club on Saturday afternoon.
Rensselaer swept all three doubles matches to begin the dual. In first doubles,
Amelia Ying (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and
Gianna Heaviland (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito) dropped an 8-4 decision to Emily Laurilliard and Maria Salmon.
Ying picked up the first point for the Tigers, defeating Laurilliard in first singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The Engineers picked up wins in straight sets in second, third and fourth singles. In fifth singles,
Alyssa Hering (Albion, NY/Kendall) fell to Makenzi Herbst in a close, 8-6 match, before
Kelsie Redburn (Byram, NJ/Pope John XXIII) picked up her fifth victory of the season via walkover to end the dual.
The Tigers will have a quick turnaround, hitting the road to take on Union at Turningstone Casino at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
