PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT (3-2) men's basketball team was defeated 85-77 by St. John Fisher (4-2) on the second day of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Classic held at Kidera Gymnasium and hosted by Nazareth College.
RIT shot 44.3 percent from the floor on 30-of-62 shooting. The Tigers made 4-of-18 from behind the arc, and were 19-of-21 from the foul line.
AJ Horde (Oak Park, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) led RIT with 24 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Trot Pierre-Louis each tallied 13 points, while
Mitch Herman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and
Wyatt Smith (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) each had six rebounds.
Tyler English led St. John Fisher with 16 points, while Keegan Ryan added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Michael D'Amico added 14 points, and Jake Haight added 11 points off the bench for the Cardinals, who shot 48.4 percent from the floor.
RIT led early in the first half, but trailed 43-28 at the half. Pierre-Louis, who scored all 13 of his points in the first half, tied the score at 12-12 with his jumper early in the half. Fisher extended their lead to five points, but
Joe Stortini (Red Hook, NY/Loomis Chaffee) answered with a bucket of his own, cutting the RIT lead to 17-14. Lewis cut the Fisher lead to four points with his bucket at th 9:33 mark of the half, but Fisher outscored RIT 23-12 over the final nine minutes to lead 43-28 at the half.
The Tigers trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half, but battled back, cutting the Fisher lead to 66-57 on a 3-pointer from Jayme Rosser with 9:45 to play. Lewis cut the lead back to nine points with a pair of free throws, and Horde's free throws with 6:59 to play capped off a 21-9 run, cutting the Cardinals lead to 70-64. RIT would not get closer, falling to the Cardinals.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 6 when the Tigers host Alfred University at 7 p.m. Head coach
Bob McVean will be inducted into the Wendy's College Classic prior to Tuesday's game.
