FREDONIA, NY – The RIT women's swimming and diving team (2-1) rolled to a resounding 195-96 win over host SUNY Fredonia (0-3) at Steele Hall Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
RIT dominated from the outset, winning 11 individual events and one relay race.
Daylen Smith (Lockwood, NY/Waverly),
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis),
Amy Adams (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy), and
Genevieve Senecal (Westfield, MA/Westfield) won two races each to lead the way.
Smith led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 200-yard freestyle, winning by just under a second in a time of 2:06.68, as
Rachel Kobel (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) placed second. She won the 50-free in 26.73 by just six one-hundredths of a second over
Sarah Evans (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), while
Grace Morales (South Riding, VA/Freedom) was right behind in third.
Zbranak led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-yard backstoke, winning in 1:00.39 with
Brenna Woodling (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) in second and
Eleanor O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) third. Zbranak also won the 200-backstroke by six seconds in 2:10.86, as RIT swimmers swept the top four spots.
Adams and
Megan O'Connor (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) were 1-2 in the 100-yard breaststroke. In the 200-breaststroke, Adams won by six seconds in 2:35.19 with Kobel in second.
Senecal cruised to a 15 second win in the 200-fly with a time of 2:18.79, while completing a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-free with Smith and
Sarah Evans (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), emerging victorious in 56.96 seconds.
Woodling took the 500-free over Maykish in a time of 5:41.14, while
Lauren Perttula (Idaho Falls, ID/Idaho Falls) led a 1-2 finish with
Olivia Phillips (Louisville, CO/Fairview) in the 100-fly, winning in 1:01.17.
Adeline Maykish (Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) won the 1,000-yard freestyle by 17 seconds in 11:39.23.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Woodling, Adams, Senecal, and Zbranak opened the afternoon by winning in a time of 1:54.01. RIT's second unit of
Emily Lederman (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown), O'Connor, Perttula, and Evans was right behind, two seconds back.
Alaiya Tuntemeke was RIT's top finisher in the 1-meter dive, placing third, while
Patsy Hayes (San Jose, CA/Abraham Lincoln) recorded a third place finish in the 3-meter event.
The Tigers are right back in action next Saturday, Nov. 5, as they host Liberty League rival St. Lawrence University in a dual meet from Judson Pool at 1 p.m.
