ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's hockey team plays its first two road games of the season, heading east on I-90 to face Union College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of the ECAC this weekend. RIT takes on Union Friday, Oct. 21 and Rensselaer Saturday, Oct. 22. Both games get underway at 7 p.m.
RIT (1-1-1, 1-1-0 Atlantic Hockey) enters the weekend coming off a 1-1 tie against the University of Connecticut in front of a sellout crowd at Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester as part of Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.
Chase Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers) scored midway through the third period to tie the game and
Mike Rotolo (Rochester, NY/Cedar Rapids Roughriders) made 21 saves. RIT out-shot Connecticut, 37-22.
The Tigers have out-scored their opponents 12-10 in three contests this season.
Caleb Cameron (Sundridge, Ontario/Listowel Cyclones),
Liam Kerins (Caledon, Ontario/North York Rangers),
Chase Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers), and
Myles Powell (Courtenay, British Columbia/Cowichan Valley Capitals) all have four points apiece to lead the team in scoring. Ten Tigers have at least two points. Rotolo has played in all three contests with a 3.26 goals against average and an .865 save percentage.
Union enters the weekend with a 2-1-1 mark. Last weekend, the Dutchmen defeated American International, 5-4 and tied Sacred Heart, 4-4. Mike Vecchione, Spencer Foo, and Jeff Taylor lead the team in scoring with five points apiece. In net, Jake Kupsky and Alex Sakellaropoulos have played in two games apiece this season. Sakellaropolous is 2-0-0 with a 3.50 goals against average and an .857 save percentage, while Kupsky is 0-1-1 with a 3.84 goals against average and an .869 save percentage.
Rensselaer enters the weekend looking for its first win of the season with a 0-3-0 mark. The Engineers dropped their first two games of the season at Maine on Oct. 7-8, and last weekend, lost at No. 1 North Dakota, 5-2. Riley Bourbonnais and Evan Tironese are tied for the team lead in scoring with two points apiece. In net, Chase Perry has played in all three games with a 4.38 goals against average and an .886 save percentage.
Riley Bourbonnais is the son of former RIT men's hockey standout John Bourbonnais, who played two seasons from 1984-86, helping the Tigers win the 1985 NCAA Division III Championship.
RIT is 12-6-3 all-time against Union. Rensselaer leads the all-time series between the two schools, 5-1-0. RIT last faced both teams at home during the 2011-12 season and made the trip east in 2010-11.
