ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT (0-4-0) women's hockey team hosts two games against ECAC foe Union College (1-4-0) as part of the university's Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend, on Friday at 3:05 p.m. and Saturday at 12:05 p.m from the Gene Polisseni Center.
This will be the first time RIT is hosting games on alumni weekend at at the Gene Polisseni Center. The last time RIT was home on this weekend was in 2013-14, when the Tigers hosted the University of Vermont for a two-game series at Ritter Arena.
The Tigers are coming off their home-opening weekend against Providence, where they dropped a pair of games, 7-0 and 3-0. However, RIT did out-shoot the Friars on Saturday, 33-26. Senior assistant captain
Mackenzie Stone (Kars, Ontario/South Carleton) and sophomore
Christa Vuglar (Crystal Lake, IL/Chicago Mission) were back in the lineup last weekend after missing all of last season due to injury.
All three of RIT's goalies have started at least one game through the first two weekends of play. Freshman
Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) got the nod in both games at Minnesota State, while senior
Brooke Stoddart (Elmvale, Ontario/Elmvale) and sophomore
Jenna de Jonge (Abbotsford, British Columbia/George Elliot) split the games played last weekend against Providence. Lanteigne leads the Tigers with a 1.95 goals against average and a .942 save percentage.
Union is are coming off a weekend split against Penn State. The Dutchwomen dropped Friday's game 8-1, before bouncing back with a 4-2 victory on Saturday. Freshmen, Haley Shugart (two goals and two assists) and Rachel de Perio (one goal and three assists), lead the team in points this season. Three freshmen are between the pipes for Union this season. Kate Spooner has started in four of Union's five games played, picking up her first collegiate win in the second game against Penn State. She has a 3.51 goals against average and a .892 save percentage.
RIT leads the all-time series between the two programs, 9-3-1, including a 4-1-1 record since the Tigers moved from Division III to Division Iin 2012. RIT won both meetings last season, by scores of 3-1 and 2-1.
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) scored two goals, while
Cassie Clayton (Pickering, Ontario/PEAC School) and
Taylor Thurston (Kanata, Ontario/All Saints Catholic) had two assists apiece in the two wins last season. RIT and Union were rivals in the ECAC East as Division III members in the early 2000's.
