ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team returned to action for the first time in 2016 with an exhibition game versus Brock University of Canada on Saturday, falling to the Badgers, 92-76.
AJ Horde (Oak Park, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) led RIT with 21 points, while
Mitch Herman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) chipped in 14 points.
RIT shot 40.3 percent from the floor on 25-of-62 shooting. The Tigers went 12-of-21 from behind the arc, and were 14-of-20 from the foul line. Horde led the Tigers with 21 points, while Herman added 14 points.
Sheldon Clay (Detroit, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) tallied 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Anthony Lewis (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) chipped in nine points and four assists off the bench for RIT.
Dani Elgadi led the Badgers with 26 points and had nine rebounds. Ryan Bennett added 20 points, while Matt Marshall scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Brock shot 50.0 percent from the floor on 35-of-70 shooting. The Badgers held a 48-29 rebounding advantage, including 15 offensive rebounds.
RIT led by five early in the first half on a jumper by Davis inside the first four minutes of the game. Brock took the lead for good on a 3-pointer from Simpson with 13:44 to play in the first half. RIT got the lead to within one point on a 3-pointer by Horde with 3:22 to play, but the Badgers out scored RIT 7-2 over the final 3:22 of the opening half, leading 43-36 at the break.
Brock extended its lead to 20 points in the second half, taking a 65-45 lead on a bucket by Elgadi with 14:05 to play. Simpson drained another 3-pointer with 12:25 left, extending the Badgers lead back to 20 points. The Tigers came back with a 10-0 run, cutting the Brock lead to 70-60 on a layup by Horde with 9:36 to play. RIT would get no closer as the Badgers were able to hit key buckets down the stretch.
The Tigers scored 16 points in the paint, and tallied 16 points off of 13 Brock turnovers. RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 5 when the Tigers face University of Rochester at 6 p.m. at the Palestra on the campus of Rochester.
