ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (21-13) dropped its regular season finale, a non-conference game against St. John Fisher, (21-17) 8-6 at Tiger Stadium on a warm, breezy Monday afternoon.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Tigers rallied to grab a 3-2 lead.
Chris Barr (North Wales, PA/North Penn ) singled on a bunt and advanced to second on a base hit from
Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name).
Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) doubled to right field, scoring Barr.
Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) hit a shot to second that scored Kajganich and advanced Flanagan.
Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) drove in a run with a double to right.
RIT scored two more runs in the bottom of the third off of another double from Gorman and a single from
CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta).
Gorman and Barr went 3-for-5, each scoring one run and Gorman driving in two. Flanagan was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Bolorin was 2-for-3.
Junior
Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) went 2-for-5 on the day, recording the 100th hit of his career. Hogan blasted a single to center, leading off in the bottom of the ninth.
Ryan Felske earned the win on the mound for the Cardinals, allowing no hits in a scoreless seventh inning of work. Ryan Smith got the save, giving up two hits over the final two innings.
Cody Wiktorski was 4-for-5 with two RBIs for the Cardinals.
Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) took the loss on the mound giving up five hits and three runs, one earned over an 1 1/3 of relief.
Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) pitched the first three innings before giving way to
David Nitsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield).
Tom Dillon (Oswego, NY/Oswego) pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, while
Tyler Ramotar (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) came on to get the final two outs.
St. John Fisher leads the all-time series between the two schools, 40-29 and won the season series, 2-1. RIT defeated the Cardinals by a score of 10-3 on March 16 at Houghton College, as Bolorin drove in four runs. On April 22, Fisher beat RIT by a score of 9-2. The two teams were long time rivals as members of the Empire 8 Conference.
RIT opens the postseason on Thursday, May 7 in the Liberty League Tournament. RIT, the No. 4 seed, will face top seed Rensselaer in an opening round contest at 3:30 p.m. Follow all of the action of the double elimination tournament
