ROCHESTER, NY - Seniors
Rory Bruce (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda),
Nick Fisk (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield), and
Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne), along with juniors
Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose) and
Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) of the RIT wrestling team were named to the 2015 Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) All-Academic Team on Thursday. To earn All-Academic honors, the student-athletes must have at least sophomore eligibilty, competed in three official contests during the season, and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average.
Bruce, a network administration major, recorded a 9-4 record, while competing at 133 lbs. this season. In four seasons, Bruce recorded a 58-43 mark.
Fisk has a career-best 11 victories this season, wrestling at 174 lbs. A bioinformatics and biotechnology double major, Fisk has 23 wins in four seasons with the Tigers. He will also earn his master's degree from the university.
Mayville, a criminal justice major, is tied for the team lead with 23 wins (23-4) while wrestling at 149 lbs. He was named the ECWC Wrestler of the Week on Feb. 24 and won his weight class at the season-opening Monarch Invitational on Nov. 1. Last season, Mayville earned his first bid to the NCAA Championships, finishing with 33 victories. He is 89-26 in three seasons at RIT and has 114 wins in his collegiate career.
Greenquist is enjoying a strong season for the Tigers in 2014-15 at 165 lbs., currently 23-6. A game design and development major, Greenquist won the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championship in his weight class and is 51-27 in three seasons at RIT.
Swearingen, a mechanical engineering major, wrestles at 197 lbs., and has 11 wins on the season and 28 for his RIT career. Three of his wins this season have come by pin.
The Tigers compete at the 2015 NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by Messiah College on Sunday, March 1 at 10 a.m. The top-three wrestlers from each weight class will advance to the NCAA Championship.
