Wrestling finishes eighth at the New York State Collegiate Championships

SYRACUSE, N.Y. –RIT senior Josh Harkless won the 285 lb. open division to lead the Tigers to an eighth-place finish at the New York State Intercollegiate Championships, Saturday.
 
Harkless, ranked third in Div. III, pinned Yaman Shehadeh (NYU) 1:32 into his opening match. He pinned Muaweyah El-Hindi (UNA) 48 seconds into his quarterfinal match and beat Kamdyn Dorchester (Ithaca) with a 15-0 technical fall in the semifinals. Harkless beat No. 2 seed Charles Weldman (USMA) 4-0 in the championship bout.
 
First year Logan Williamson placed second in the 165 lb. freshman/sophomore division. He pinned Abdullah Alroumi (NICC) 4:31 into his opening match. He pinned Chase Taylor (USMM) 6:09 into his round of 16 bout and advanced to the semifinals with a pin against Isaiah Harris (HUNTER) 3:34 into his quarterfinal match. Williamson beat Brandon DellaPia 8-4 in the semis before a loss to Ryley Monica (ONEONTA) in the championship match.
 
First year Marco Rivera finished third in the 149 lb. freshman/sophomore division. He pinned John Naparano (ITHACA) in his opening match and pinned Cam Ingram (NICC) at 2:42 in his round of 16 match. Rivera beat Alfred's Kyle Meyer before a loss to Mason Mangialino in the semifinals. He picked up a no-contest win in the consolation semis before pinning Michael Fahmie (ITHACA) in the third-place match.
 
First year Konrad Haugeto placed third in the 157 lb. freshman/sophomore division, picking up a 2-1 win over Kingston Strouse (ONEONTA) in his first match. He defeated Payne Weinhauer (OSWEGO) 7-5 and took down Travis Soucia (OCC) 3-1 in the quarterfinals before a loss to Colton Havens in the semis. He pinned Arcangelo Losee (RPI) in the third-place bout.
 
Sophomore Quincy Bonville finished third in the 285 lb. freshman/sophomore division, pinning Chris Ayala (CORTLAND) in his opening match. He lost to Hamza Merrick (NICC) in the quarterfinals but came back to pin Hayden Roy (HUNTER) in the consolation round. Bonville pinned Steve Schmitt (UU) and Brady Callahan (CORTLAND) before a win over Chris Ayala in the third-place match.
 
First years Amari Payton (141 lb.) and Zach Gerby (157 lb.) each placed sixth in the freshman/sophomore division.
