Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas) and
Jess Paton (Woodstock, Ontario/Waterloo K-W Rangers) each netted a goal as the RIT (10-17-5, 4-11-3 CHA) women's hockey team played Robert Morris (9-17-5, 6-8-4 CHA) to a second consecutive 2-2 tie on Saturday afternoon from 84 Lumber Arena.
RIT came out and scored just 1:05 into the game. McCrea gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead off of passes from
Emilee Bulleid (Waterdown, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres) and
Carly Payerl (Kitchener, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic). Ashley Vesci answered back for the Colonials with her unassisted goal at 1:32 of the first period.
Paton gave RIT a 2-1 lead on her goal at 15:28 of the first period. She tallied her sixth of the season off a feed from
Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets).
The Colonials scored with 2:21 left in the second period to tie the game. Amanda Pantaleo tied the game with an unassiste goal.
Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs) made 37 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Jessica Dodds made 33 saves for Robert Morris.
Robert Morris held an 39-35 advantage in shots. Both teams went 0-of-3 on the man-advantage.
"I thought we played hard today," said RIT head coach
Scott McDonald. "I thought especially in the third period and the OT the team really turned it on. This game had a playoff feel to it. It was a tough, physical game."
RIT is 7-6-3 all-time against the Colonials. The season series is tied 1-1-2 in 2014-15. It is the second straight game these two teams have skated to a 2-2 tie. On Friday,
Marissa Maugeri (Ajax, Ontario/Durham West Lightning) and
Mackenzie Stone (Kars, Ontario/South Carleton) scored for the Tigers.
The Tigers face-off against the Syracuse University on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in Syracuse, N.Y.
