John Carroll wins 50th Annual RIT Wrestling Invitational for third straight season

ROCHESTER, NY --
For the third straight year, John Carroll University won the 12-team field at the 50th annual RIT Wrestling Invitational, hosted by RIT at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center.  The Blue Streaks took first with a team score of 146.0. Worcester Polytechnic Institute placed second with 129.5 points, while Wesleyan University placed third with a team score of 108.5.

Sonnieboy Blanco (174 lbs.) of Washongton & Jefferson) was awarded the 2015 Tony Wallace Memorial Award given to the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the meet. The award honors Wallace, a member of the RIT Athletics Hall of Famer and three-time All-American wrestler. Wallace, a native of Loveland, Ohio, was an All-American wrestler at RIT from 1998-2002. He was just the third member in the history of RIT wrestling to earn three All-American honors, finishing his career with a 108-27 record. He died on Aug. 28, 2010, while on duty with the Hoonah (Alaska) Police Department. Wallace, a business administration major, was an assistant coach for the Tigers from 2003-05 and worked in the RIT Office of Public Safety from 2005-08.
