ROCHESTER, NY – Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) opened her collegiate career with three victories, highlighting the RIT women's swimming and diving effort to begin the 2015-2016 season, as the Tigers fell to RPI, 182-113, on Saturday afternoon at Judson Pool during Brick City Weekend.
In her first ever race, Zbranak took home first place in the 100-yard freestyle, winning in a time of 55.19. She then picked up steam in the 100-yard backstroke, an event that she narrowly won in 1:00.15, just two tenths of a second ahead of the next swimmer. For the finale, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Zbranak and her team of
Olivia Phillips (Louisville, CO/Fairview),
Sarah Evans (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), and
Daylen Smith (Lockwood, NY/Waverly) won in convincing fashion, as their time of 3:53.26 was over seven seconds ahead of the competition.
Genevieve Senecal (Westfield, MA/Westfield) also picked up a win on Saturday, in the 200-yard individual medley, posting a time of 2:19.86.
The Tigers were also successful on the diving front, as
Natalie Snyder (Rockville, MD/Rockville) won on the 1-meter dive with 244.65 points.
The event began on a special note, as the team honored RIT Hall of Fame members Caitlyn Burr, and the 1970-1971 undefeated RIT men's swimming and diving team, which finished the season 16-0. They will be inducted tomorrow.
The Tigers will next swim on the road, as they travel to take on Oswego State on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
