ROCHESTER, NY – Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) posted three of the RIT men's swimming and diving team's four victories, as the Tigers (0-1) opened the 2015-2016 season with a loss to RPI (1-0), 180-113 at Judson Pool Saturday afternoon.
Brown's day started early in the 50-yard freestyle, taking home first with a time of 22.24. He then swam in the 100-yard freestyle, winning in 49.41. Brown finished off a successful day with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with teammates
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth),
Tomer Artzi (Framingham, MA/Framingham), and
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area). The winning time was 3:19.34.
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) was the other winner, taking home the 100-yard freestyle in 55.30.
The event began on a special note, as the team honored RIT Hall of Fame members Caitlyn Burr, and the 1970-1971 undefeated RIT men's swimming and diving team, which finished the season 16-0. They will be inducted tomorrow.
The Tigers will next swim on the road, as they travel to take on Oswego State on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
