GENESEO, NY – The RIT (4-3) women's swimming and diving team opened the 2015 calendar year by suffering a 157-128 loss to SUNY Geneseo at Alumni Pool on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomores
Genevieve Senecal (Westfield, MA/Westfield) and
Brenna Woodling (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) each won an event and were second in two others. Senecal took the number one spot in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:18.41. She placed second in the 200-yard butterfly finishing in 2:16.06. Woodling took first in the 200-yard backstroke and second in the 100 with times of 2:18.34 and 1:03.53 respectively.
Jillian Sirkis (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) finished right behind Senecal in the 200-medley with a time of 2:26.91, while
Erika Bushey (Somers, CT/Somers) followed at 2:36.27.
In the 200 breaststroke,
Rachel Kobel (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen),
Megan O'Connor (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts), and
Shannon Ryan (Round Rock, TX/Stony Point) finished in the top three spots with times of 2:43.93, 2:48.67, and 2:52.81, respectively.
Carol Anderson (Silver Spring, MD/Albert Einstein),
Caitlin Foster (Bath, ME/Morse), and
Grace Morales (South Riding, VA/Freedom) did the same in the 500-yard freestyle, with times of 5:35.82, 5:38.77, and 5:46.29.
In relay action, The Tigers took the top three positions in the 400-yard freestyle. The team of Sirkis,
Alex Timberlake (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili), Morales, and Manning won the race finishing in 3:53.97. Kobel, Woodling, Foster, and
Kelsey Schaefer (Berea, OH/Berea) were second with a time of 3:59.77, while
Jenny Genovese (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury),
Shavon McGlynn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford),
Krystal Mitich (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain), and
Britney Merriman (Delhi, NY/Delware Academy) were third at 4:12.20.
In the diving events, junior
Natalie Snyder (Rockville, MD/Rockville) took second place in the 1-meter with a final score of 237.50.
The Tigers will be back in action against Hamilton College from Judson pool on RIT's campus, Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m.
