Baseball drops single non-conference home contest to The College at Brockport

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team (15-10) fell behind early and could never recover, falling to The College at Brockport (19-10) by a score of 13-5 in a non-conference contest from Tiger Stadium on a warm, breezy, Monday afternoon. The Golden Eagles have now won six straight games.

Brockport scored three times in each of the first two innings, never trailing throughout. Leadoff batter Kyle Tracy reached base and scored four times, while driving in a pair of runs and stealing three bases. He was 2-for-3 with a triple and two walks. Dan Hurlimann hit a two-run homer and scored twice. Brendan Swayne was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and run batted in.

The Golden Eagles made the most of their opportunities, leaving just three runnners on base.

Mike McFerran allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) in five innings to earn his fourth win of the season. Brockport's bullpen of Dakota Stackhouse, Jeffrey Prouse, and Josh Appel combined to allow just three RIT hits over the final four scoreless innings.

CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Jim Schmidt (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) ripped a run-scoring triple to deep centerfield. On the mound, Rich Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) started and took the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) in two innings. Tom Dillon (Oswego, NY/Oswego) pitched three innings of relief, allowing three hits and three earned runs, while David Nitsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield) needed just 22 pitches to fire two innings of scoreless relief. Brian Sheridan (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg) finished the game for the Tigers, allowing three runs over the final two frames.

Tracy opened the scoring by drawing a walk, advancing to second, then scoring when he stole third and the throw went into left field. After a second walk, Hurlimann deposited a 0-1 pitch well over the right field wall to make it 3-0 Golden Eagles. WIth Brockport up 6-0 in the second, RIT got on the board, as Phil Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) walked and scored on Gorman's triple. Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) recorded a RBI ground out, scoring Gorman to make it 6-2. Chris Barr (North Wales, PA/North Penn ) and Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) drove in fifth inning runs to close out the RIT scoring.

Brockport leads the all-time series between the two schools, 66-48. The Tigers are now 5-5 in non-conference contests this season.

RIT returns to action with a pair of doubleheaders against Liberty League foe Clarkson on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, RIT will honor seniors Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols), Tyler Leichtenberger (Warren, PA/Warren Area), and Michael Burns (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) before its 1 p.m start. On Sunday, the two teams meet at 12 p.m.
