SYRACUSE, NY - The RIT women's swimming and diving team improved to 4-2 in dual meets this season after coming from behind to pull out a 124-114 victory over LeMoyne College (2-2) at the Reverend Vincent J. Ryan pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers trailed 112-109 going into the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay before finishing 1-2 to pull out the win. The team of
Alex Timberlake (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili),
Caitlin Foster (Bath, ME/Morse),
Kelsey Schaefer (Berea, OH/Berea), and
Colleen Manning (Farmingdale, NY/St. Anthony's) won by nearly nine seconds in a time of 3:52.86. RIT's "B" team of
Rose Rustowicz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale),
Jenny Genovese (Lincoln, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury),
Cassie Kaczmarek (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), and
Britney Merriman (Delhi, NY/Delware Academy) took second in 4:01.48 to give RIT the meet win.
Genevieve Senecal (Westfield, MA/Westfield) took first by over eight seconds in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.31) over teammate
Jillian Sirkis (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury), while
Caitlin Foster (Bath, ME/Morse) and
Carol Anderson (Silver Spring, MD/Albert Einstein) completed a 1-2 finish for the Tigers in the 500-yard freestyle. Foster won by just under two seconds in 5:37.30.
RIT finished 1-2 in both diving events, as
Natalie Snyder (Rockville, MD/Rockville) easily won both the 1-meter (163.30) and 3-meter (244.75), with
Patsy Hayes (San Jose, CA/Abraham Lincoln) finishing second in both events.
RIT enjoyed a host of second place finishes, including the 200-yard medley relay team of
Brenna Woodling (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East), Senecal,
Megan O'Connor (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts), and Timberlake (2:00.99). In addition, Anderson was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:36.76), Woodling took runner-up in the 200-free (2:08.24) and 200-backstroke (2:21.44), and Senecal in the 200-individual medley (2:20.81)
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 at the 2014 Liberty League Championships hosted by the University of Rochester.
