NEW YORK, NY - The RIT volleyball squad (7-9) fell to DeSales University (8-7) and SUNY New Paltz (11-4), both in three sets at the NYU Violet Classic on Saturday. Freshman
Sarah Szybist (Chicago, IL/Ramstein) was named to the All-Tournament team.
DeSales won the first set, 25-19, then took the next two sets, 25-15, and 25-16. Lauren Hess led DeSales wiith 14 kills, while Lisa Wallitsch recorded 22 assists and Amanda Wallistch added 19 digs.
Sarah Szybist (Chicago, IL/Ramstein) recorded a double-double for the Tigers, with 13 digs and 11 kills to go along with five assisted blocks.
Emma Dowdy (Cocoa, FL/Edgewood) dished out 13 assists, while
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) recorded 14 digs and three assists.
Anna Valentine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) hit a team-best .188 with five kills and six digs.
The Tigers fell to New Paltz by scores of 25-23, 25-19, 25-13. Becca Borquist led the Hawks with 12 kills, while Marissa King added 30 assists.
Szybist slammed 13 kills , while Dowdy dished out 24 assists and added five digs.
Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) hit .353 with eight kills, while
Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) added six kills. Davis recorded a team-best 14 digs and a pair of service aces.
Yesterday, RIT fell to host NYU and UMass-Boston, both in three sets.
RIT returns to action next weekend, opening up Liberty League crossover play. On Friday, RIT plays St. Lawrence at 5 p.m. and Bard at 7:30 p.m. at Clarkson. The next day, RIT plays Clarkson and Vassar at St. Lawrence.
