Box Score ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team wrapped up the 2013 season with a convincing 15-1 win over visiting Houghton College (13-19) at Tiger Stadium on a breezy, warm Wednesday afternoon. RIT recorded a season-high 21 hits in the victory and finish the 2013 season with a 15-24 record.
RIT scored twice in the third inning, once in the the fourth, then broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning and seven runs in the seventh. RIT added a run in the eighth inning.
Ten different players had hits for RIT, including six with at least two hits.
Sophomore first baseman
Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) ended the year on a high note, recording a career-high four hits, going 4-for-5 with a stolen base, double, three RBI's, and two runs batted in. He finishes the year in the top-10 all-time at RIT in a season with 53 hits and 35 RBI's.
Junior third baseman
Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) set a career-high by going 4-for-6 with a double, stolen base, four RBI's, and two runs scored.
Zach Zabel (Clarence, NY/Clarence) wrapped his impressive first season by going 3-for-4 with a stolen base, two runs scored, and a run batted in. Zabel finished the season with a team-best .415 batting average.
Forst-year outfielder
Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's and run scored, while catcher
Brian Battaglia (Sliver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) recorded his first multi-hit outing, going 2-for-5 with a run scored and run batted in. Sophomore outfielder
Chris Barr (North Wales, PA/North Penn ) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and one run batted in.
Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols),
Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn), and
Tyler Ramotar (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) all had a hit and run batted in.
On the mound,
Chris Dickinson (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) recorded his first win of the season, allowing eight hits and an unearned run in five innings.
Brandon Cohall (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) fired three scoreless innings of relief, while
Reuben Brenner-Adams (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca (Lehman Alternative)) pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Christopher McKay went 3-for-4 to lead Houghton. Kaiden Bowers and Kameron Konert were 2-for-3 apiece. On the mound, Jared Knowlton took the loss, allowing seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.
RIT is now 5-2 all-time against Houghton. The two teams had not met since the 1984 season.
Today was the final game for seniors
