NEWARK, NY - The RIT baseball team (11-22) dropped both ends of a doubleheader to non-conference foe St. John Fisher (24-13) under the lights at Colburn Park in Newark on a picture perfect Wednesday evening. The Tigers dropped game one by a score of 8-4, then fell in game two, 2-0.
In game one, RIT led 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning before St. John Fisher took advantage of an error to score six unearned runs and rally for the 8-4 win. With the game tied at 4-4, Ben Bostick gave Fisher the lead for good with a two-run single.
In the top of the fifth inning,
Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) doubled to right center, scoring
Zach Zabel (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and
Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), who both reached on infield singles to give RIT a 3-2 lead.
Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) singled in
Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 4-2 RIT. The Tigers had the bases loaded with one out and a chance to break the game open later in the inning, but were unable to do so.
RIT out-hit Fisher 9-8 in the opener.
Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was 2-for-3 for RIT, as eight of the nine starters had one hit. Canestro and Kajganich drove in a pair of runs apiece. On the mound,

In game two,
RIT hurler (West Babylon, NY/Landmark)Michael Burns# and Fisher pitcher Tom Dybas hooked up in a pitcher's duel, with neither guy giving in over the first four innings.
Fisher pushed across the games only two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Shane Barley led off with a walk and scored on a single by Mike Fahy that was mishandled for a two-base error. Mike Roman then singled in Fahy for the second run.
RIT had a great chance to tie the game in the sixth inning, loading the bases with two outs, but Dybas got Hogan to ground out to end the threat.
Dybas allowed just four hits and one walk, while striking out five batters to earn the complete game shutout win. Burns allowed just five hits and an unearned run in five innings, suffering the tough loss for the Tigers.
Seth Noreman (Old Bethpage, NY/Old Bethpage-JFK) pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief.
Tonight's games were the second and third meetings between the two teams in the last six days. On April 25, Fisher squandered a 5-0 lead, then rallied from a 7-5 deficit in the ninth inning to eventually win, 12-8 in 10 innings at Tiger Stadium.
