Baseball records a doubleheader split vs. Gwynedd Mercy; Tigers finish Spring trip 4-2

WINTER HAVEN, FL - The RIT baseball team (4-2) wrapped up its Spring trip by splitting a doubleheader against Gwynedd Mercy (Pa.) on Friday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park. The Tigers won game one 4-3, then dropped game two by a score of 12-2. RIT finished its trip with a 4-2 record, scoring 55 runs in six games.

In the opener, RIT starter Ethan Humbert (Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) did not allow a hit over the first five innings. He ended up allowing just one hit and two earned runs, while walking two. Reuben Brenner-Adams (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca (Lehman Alternative)) came on in relief to record his first collegiate save throwing 1 2/3 innings, not allowing a single hit and striking out one.

RIT scored single runs in the first, fourth, and fifth innings. CJ Bolorin (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was 2-for-4 but reached base four times, also scoring two runs to go along with a stolen base. Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) reached base twice, drawing a walk and his sixth hit by pitch of the year. Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) walked twice and stole a base. Tyler Ramotar (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), who opened the season 11-for-15, had his hit streak snapped, but walked once, stole a base, and scored. Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) was 2-for-4, while Greg Schworm (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) and Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn) also drove in runs.

In the second game, RIT took the early lead, but Gwynedd Mercy pulled away late, scoring four runs in the fifth and four in the seventh.

Bolorin had a hit and scored a run, while Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was 1-for-3 with a run scored and run batted in. Ramotar was 2-for-3, giving him 13 hits in six games this season.Matt Holtby (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly. Zach Zabel (Clarence, NY/Clarence) also had a base hit.

Chris Dickinson (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) picked up the loss for RIT, allowing two hits and two runs in three innings.

RIT is back in action with a single nine-inning game against SUNY Brockport on Tuesday, March 12 that gets underway at 2 p.m.
