GENESEO, NY -- The No. 6 RIT (2-3) women's basketball team was defeated by No. 3 SUNY Geneseo (4-0), 88-68 in the opening round of the 21st Annual Wendy's Classic on the campus of Geneseo on Tuesday evening.

Jess Kramer (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) and
Mallory Apperson (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove)# each had seven points, while Apperson grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Shannon McGinnis led Geneseo with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Peterson added 13 points, while Allison McKenna scored 12 points for the Knights who improve to 4-0 on the season.
RIT shot 29.3 percent from the floor on 22-of-75 shooting. The Tigers were 4-of-16 from behind the arc and went 20-of-33 from the foul line.
RIT trailed by 13 early in the first half, but cut the lead to eight points on a bucket by Wheeler with 9:54 to play before the Knights went on a 23-7 run to close out the first half with a 49-25 edge at the break.
The Knights led by as many as 23 points in the second half, cruising home for the 20-point win.
RIT will face SUNY Brockport on Thursday at 8 p.m. on the campus of RIT in the consolation round of the Wendy's College Classic.
