Volleyball wins 900th match in victories over Hartwick and Houghton

ELMIRA, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (5-3) earned its 900th win as a varsity program on Saturday, defeating Hartwick in three sets (25-18, 25-23, 25-16) at the Elmira Tournament. RIT then rallied from two sets down to defeat Houghton in a hard fought five set thriller. The Tigers lost the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-16, before roaring back to win 25-20, 25-22, 15-10. RIT finished 3-1 at the Elmira Tournament this weekend. Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) and Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

In the win over Hartwick, RIT hit a robust .412.

Senior setter Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 31 assists, while hitting .778 with seven kills in just nine attempts to go along with seven digs. Classmate Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) slammed 10 kills and hit .417. Sophomore Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) hit a career-best .615 with eight kills in 13 attempts, while freshman Arielle Pariente (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) recorded six kills and three service aces. Sophomore libero Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) had 12 digs and four assists.

Against Houghton, senior Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) slammed 14 kills and hit .355 to go along with four blocks, and four assists. White added 12 kills and a career-best seven blocks. Sullivan and Jokajtys added 11 and 10 kills each.

Worth dished out a season-high 46 assists to go along with nine kills, and four service aces, while hitting .421.

RIT is in its 38th season as a varsity program.

Last night, RIT defeated Wells and lost to host Elmira.

RIT returns to action on Friday, hosting the RIT Invitational. The Tigers face SUNY Geneseo at 1 p.m. and national power NYU at 7 p.m.
