ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (4-3-0) women's soccer team was defeated by Nazareth College (4-1-3) 1-0 in non-conference action from a rainy and chilly Tiger Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the Tigers.
RIT fired 12 shots, including 11 in the second half, while Nazareth had seven shots. The Tigers took six corner kicks to four for the Golden Flyers.
The Tigers mounted a furious comeback in the second half.
Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) had a great chance to equalize in the 86th minute with a shot from just inside the Nazareth penalty area. Nazareth keeper Abbie Carey gobbled up the shot off the wet grass.
Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) had a couple good shots earlier in the second half, but the Nazareth defense stepped in and blocked both shots before they could get on net.
Nazareth scored the game's only goal in the 38th minute on a goal by Kassandra Prutsman. She scored off a corner kick from Mel Gettys, redirecting a shot inside the near post and past two RIT defenders and goalkeeper
Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls).
Murray took the loss for RIT allowing one goal and making four saves. Carey picked up her fourth win of the season for Nazareth, making five saves.
RIT begins Liberty League play on Saturday, September 22 when the Tigers host #17 Union College at 2 pm on Tiger Stadium.
