Box Score

PITTSFORD, NY – Carnegie Mellon's Savina Reid scored with just 4:02 left in regulation to hand the RIT women's soccer team (1-1) its first loss of 2012 season, 1-0 at the Nazareth College Women's Soccer Tournament at Golden Flyer Stadium on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

RIT goalkeeper Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) collected a loose ball at the edge of the defensive box and went to roll a pass to defender Jamie Martinez (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel), who was a few yards away. Unfortunately for RIT, the attempted pass was intercepted by Reid, who was able to deflect the ball into the open net for the game's only goal.

With just 6:35 left in regulation, Rachael Bromson (Suffield, CT/Suffield) had a tremendous chance, getting the ball at the right side of box, then firing a hard, low shot that Albi smothered.

RIT had two great chances early in the second half off a corner kick, as a shot from the edge of the box by Ashlene Potter (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) stopped by Carnegie Mellon goalkeeper Anna Albi. The rebound was punched out to Kiana Richards (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) who fired a hard shot from about 30-yards out that Albi dove to keep out of the net.

Neither team generated much offense in the opening half. Richards saved a goal late in the first half, as a corner kick by Carnegie Mellon's Rachel Contopoulos was perfectly struck and appeared to be going in, but the RIT sophomore leaped and headed the ball off the line and out of danger.

Carnegie Mellon out-shot RIT, 8-5. Albi stopped three shots to earn the shutout for Carnegie Mellon, while Murray# made three saves for the Tigers. RIT had four corner kicks to just one for the Tartans.

RIT is now 0-2 all-time against the Tartans. Last season, Carnegie Mellon defeated RIT 2-1 in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.

Yesterday, RIT opened the season with a 2-0 lead over Oneonta. Bromson and Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) scored 56 seconds apart late in the second half to break the scoreless tie.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, as they face Grove City in the John Carroll Tournament at 7 p.m.
