POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The RIT baseball team (8-13, 4-8 Liberty League) dropped a pair of games at Vassar (8-12, 6-6 Liberty League) on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Prentiss Baseball Field. The Brewers won game one, 14-0, then scored 12 times in the top of the first inning of game two, eventually winning, 23-2.
In game one, RIT mustered just five hits, including two by senior
Jon Meyer (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland).
Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) doubled, while
Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn), and
Jaren Bell (Rochester, NY/Brighton) also singled.
Vassar hurler John MacGregor fired the complete-game five-hitter, striking out four batters. A.J. Kim and Dan McCormack drove in three runs apiece for the Brewers. All nine Vassar starters had at least one hit, as they clubbed 18. Vassar broke the game open with six runs in the top of the third inning.
In game two, the Brewers exploded for 12 runs in the top of the first inning and slammed 25 hits. Liam Lee was 6-for-7 with four runs scored and three RBI's. Perrone was 5-for-6 with four runs scored and three RBI's, while Dave Robbins was 4-for-6 with five runs batted in. On the mound, Joe Lovizio earned the win, allowing six hits and one earned run in six innings.
Brazee was 3-for-4 for RIT, with a double and run batted in.
Corey McEvoy (Hilton, NY/Hilton) drove in RIT's other run. Bell had two hits. Wyatt Seibold pitched three strong innings in relief, allowing just three hits and a run, while
Tyler Leichtenberger (Warren, PA/Warren Area) hurled a scoreless ninth inning.
Yesterday, the two teams split a doubleheader, with Vassar winning game one, 6-2, and RIT taking the second contest, 10-8.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, as they host Keuka in a single, nine-inning game on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
