Baseball Sweeps Clarkson in pair of exciting Liberty League doubleheaders

ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT men's baseball team (12-17, 7-11 Liberty League) came from behind twice to sweep Clarkson (13-14, 7-11 LL) on Friday afternoon, winning game one 5-4 with a walkoff hit by Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn), and game two 12-10, behind a stellar performance by Tyler Leichtenberger (Warren, PA/Warren Area).

RIT trailed 4-2 before rallying in game one, while the Tigers dug themselves a 5-1 lead in game two before rallying for the win.
 
GAME 1
 
Brazee led off the bottom of the second with a walk, and advanced to second on a ground out by Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols)Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) would follow that up with a long fly ball that was dropped by the Clarkson left fielder, scoring Brazee.
 
John Coleman reached first on a slow dribbler toward third base in the top of the third.  Following an incredible diving catch by Jaren Bell (Rochester, NY/Brighton) in left field, David Kinney hit a bloop single to center field, scoring Coleman from first.
 
Canestro led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to right center field.  Following a pair of outs, Greg Schworm (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) ripped a singled up the middle to drive in Canestro, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
 
John Coleman led off the top of the fifth with a single right back to the pitcher.  Dan Lenney would then drop a single into center field, advancing Coleman to third.  David Kinney then drove in Coleman with a double to left center, followed by a David Wixted groundout, scoring Lenney.  A flyout and a groundout ended the Golden Knights' rally.
 
Jerry Coleman led off the top of the sixth with a double down the right field line.  After a strikeout, John Coleman reached on a walk.  Jerry Coleman and John Coleman both advanced on a double-steal, followed by an infield single by Lenney, scoring Jerry Coleman.
 
Brazee led of the bottom of the sixth with a single, followed by a single by Canestro.  Jon Meyer (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) hit a liner straight to the shortstop, who doubled-up Brazee at second.  Flanagan then ripped a single, followed by a two-RBI double by Schworm.
 
Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) got things started in the bottom of the seventh, with a triple to center field.  Brazee followed that up with a walk-off single up the middle, giving the Tigers a 5-4 win.

Ethan Humbert (Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) pitched strong for RIT, striking out nine in the complete-game effort to earn his second win of the season. Schworm, Brazee, Roman, Canestro, and Bell each had two hits. Schworm drove in three runs.
 
GAME 2
 
John Coleman started out the top of the first with a double to center field.  After a ground out to first advanced Coleman to third, Kinney ripped a double to right center, scoring Coleman.  Kinney was picked off at second, followed by an inside-the-park home run by Wixted.
 
The Tigers would respond in the bottom half of the inning.  Bell would lead off with a single, and advance to second on a wild pitch.  Bradley would advance Bell to third on an infield single.  Bell would then score, with Roman grounding into a 6-4-3 double play.
 
Justin Rubhun led off the top of the second with a double to right field, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Following a ground out, Kolby Ziemendorf hit a single just over the second baseman's head, scoring Rebhun.  Dan Podrazo cranked a single into left field, followed by an RBI single by John Coleman.  David Kinney would follow that up with a double to left field, scoring Padrazo.
 
Canestro started off the second with a single through the right side, then stole second to get into scoring position.  Meyer followed that up with a double to left field, scoring Canestro.  After a line-out by Flanagan, Tyler Ramotar (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) hit a single through the right side, scoring Meyer from second.  Ramotar stole second, before Bell laced an RBI double to right field.  Bradley then ripped a single through the left side, scoring Bell, followed by a double by Roman, scoring Bradley. 
 
Canestro led off the bottom of the third with a walk and a steal, and advanced to third on a single by Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan).  Ramotar then drove in Canestro with a sacrifice fly.  #C.J. Bolorin# hit a single to right field, advancing Flanagan to third.  Bolorin took second, followed by a two-RBI double by Bell.
 
John Coleman led off the top of the fourth with a single to right field, and scored on a double by Kinney.  Kinney would score the Golden Knights' second run of the inning on a single by Wixted.  Henchey then drove in Wixted with an RBI double.  Clarkson tied the game up at nine with a single by Bobby Derico, scoring Henchey.
 
The Tigers regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth.  Brazee and Canestro hit back-to-back singles, and advanced on a wild pitch.  Meyer roped a single to left field, scoring both Brazee and Canestro, before being caught on his way to second.
 
The Golden Knights would respond in the top of the seventh.  Tim Beninati was hit by pitch, then advanced to second on a single by Padrazo.  John Coleman followed that up with a RBI single to left field, scoring Beninati. 
 
The Tigers picked up some insurance in the bottom of the seventh, starting with a triple by Ramotar.  Bolorin would then drive in Ramotar, before being tagged out at second.
 
Dan Schuster (Livonia, NY/Livonia) and Leichtenberger would come in to pitch five tremendous innings, allowing just two hits combined, to give the Tigers a 12-10 win. Canestro was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Bell was 3-for-4 with three RBI's, two doubles, and two runs scored. Meyer drove in three runs, while Ramotar was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI's.
 
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow, April 21, when they host Clarkson for a pair of Liberty League contests, starting at 1 p.m.
