Baseball falls short in non-league contest at Brockport

BROCKPORT, NY -
The RIT baseball team (10-17) dropped a non-league contest to The College at Brockport (21-11), 7-3, on Wednesday afternoon at the Clark V. Whited Complex. The Golden Eagles have now won eight of their last 10.

Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn) continued his torrid hitting for the Tigers, going 2-for-4 with a double. Brazee now has a 10-game hitting streak and is 16-for-22 (.727) over his last seven games. He leads the team with a .417 batting average in 2012.

Brockport scored twice in the bottom of the first. After RIT cur the lead to 2-1 on a run-scoring single by Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) in the top of the third inning, Brockport responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, then added one in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a commanding 7-1 lead.

RIT scored twice in the seventh inning, loading the bases with no outs on singles by Tyler Ramotar (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Greg Schworm (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) led off with singles, and Jaren Bell (Rochester, NY/Brighton) was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) walked to drive in Ramotar, then Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) grounded out to drive in a run.

Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) got the start for RIT, allowing seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out four batters in five innings. Despite the solid outing, he was given the loss. Brad Wright (Baldswinville, NY/C.W. Baker), Dan Schuster (Livonia, NY/Livonia), and Tyler Leichtenberger (Warren, PA/Warren Area) combined to throw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Corey Booth paced the Brockport offense with two hits, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Pete Wilson, Kyle Tracy, Nick Bunce, and Mike Weakley all added two hits apiece.

On the mound, Aaron Tilley pitched seven strong innings, scattering eight hits and allowing just two earned runs. Tilley got the win to improve to 5-3. Mark Ciccotti provided two innings of relief work not allowing a hit and striking out two batters.

RIT returns to action on Saturday and Sunday, hosting Clarkson University for a pair of Liberty League doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's contest gets underway at 1 p.m., while Sunday's begins at 12 p.m.
