ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT baseball team (10-16, 5-11 Liberty League) earned a doubleheader split against visiting Skidmore College (18-8, 10-6 Liberty League) through the raindrops at RIT Field on Sunday afternoon. RIT won game one by a score of 6-5, while Skidmore took game two, 6-2. Sophomore third baseman Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) broke his own single-season record by getting hit by a pitch for the 17th time this season.

In game one, RIT held leads of 5-0 and 6-2 before Skidmore scored three in the bottom of the seventh to make it a one-run finish. Tyler Leichtenberger (Warren, PA/Warren Area) struck out Jeremy Selecky with runners on second and third to end the game.

RIT took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, as Roman tripled in a pair of runs, and Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Roman. The Tigers upped their lead to 5-0, as Brazee plated two runs with a two-out single in the fourth inning. After Skidmore scored twice to make it 5-2, RIT would score what proved to be the game-winning run in the sixth inning without getting a hit. Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) walked and Jaren Bell (Rochester, NY/Brighton) was hit by a pitch. The two executed a double steal and Roman plated Bradley with a sacrifice fly.

Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) picked up his third win of the season, allowing five hits and one earned run with four strikeouts over five innings. Leichtenberger pitched the final two innings, allowing three runs.

Roman, who broke his team record for getting hit by a pitch in the fourth inning, was 2-for-2 with a run scored, and three RBI's. Brazee was 2-for-3 with three RBI's, while Bradley scored three times, and Bell scored twice.

Alex Barber was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's for the Thoroughbreds. Jordan Keysor took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs, five earned, in five innings.

In game two, Brazee was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored, and run batted in for RIT, lifting his team-best batting average to .413.

Skidmore took advantage of four RIT errors to score four unearned runs in the win. Erik Watkins was 2-for-4 with three RBI's, while Nick Barra finished 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored.

On the mound, Max Martins allowed just seven hits and struck out seven in eight innings to earn the win. Nick Petrella pitched a hitless ninth inning, and was bailed out by a tremendous defensive play from Watkins, who dove fully extended to his left to rob Canestro of a hit on a sharply hit line drive.

Chris Dickinson (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) allowed just two earned runs in six innings for RIT. Dan Schuster (Livonia, NY/Livonia) allowed just two hits in two scoreless innings of relief.

Yesterday, Skidmore pounded 38 hits in a doubleheader sweep of RIT, winning 17-7 and 16-9.

Today's doubleheader was delayed at the start for 70 minutes due to rain.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday with a single, nine-inning, non-conference game at The College at Brockport. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
