ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (9-13) used a potent offensive attack to defeat visiting Keuka (2-10) 13-7 in non-league action at RIT Field on a sunny, cool, Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore third baseman
Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) reached base five times in six plate appearances, hitting a double, single, drawing one walk, and getting hit by a pitch twice. He has now been hit by a pitch 14 times this season, two shy of his single-season record, set last season. Roman has now been hit a school record 30 times. He improved his on-base percentage to .523.
Freshman hurler
Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Bishop Feehan) earned his second win of the season, allowing four hits and three earned runs in five innings of work. He retired nine straight batters during one stretch. Three relievers combined to close out the game.
RIT broke open a close game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, aided by four wild pitches to take a 12-4 lead. The Tigers scored 12 of the runs in the first five innings and out-hit the Storm, 12-8.
The Tigers stole a season-high eight bases.
Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) was 3-for-5 with three steals, two runs scored, and two runs driven in.
Jaren Bell (Rochester, NY/Brighton) also stole three bases, scored three times, and drove in a run.
Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and two runs scored.
Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) scored twice.
For Keuka, Justin Citronelli was 2-for-3 with a run scored and driven in. Gavin Corbin finished 2-for-3 with a double, run scored, and run batted in.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday and Sunday with a pair of home doubleheaders against Liberty League foe Skidmore. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., while Sunday's gets underway at 12 p.m.
