Bats fall silent in baseball's loss to WPI

ORLANDO, FL -
The RIT baseball team (1-3) mustered just four hits, falling 7-2 to WPI (4-2) on Thursday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park Field at the RussMatt Invitational.

The Tigers scored both of their runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Greg Schworm (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) and #C.J. Bolorin singled and advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Both runners scored as a ground ball by (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey)Kreag Bradley# was thrown away by the WPI shortstop.

Ron Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) had RIT's other two hits, singles in the fourth and seventh innings.

Andrew Portera kept RIT off balance all game, allowing just the four hits, while walking two and striking three in the complete-game effort.

Chris Dickinson (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) took the loss for RIT, allowing seven hits and three runs in two innings. Jaren Bell (Rochester, NY/Brighton), Brad Wright (Baldswinville, NY/C.W. Baker), and Dan Schuster (Livonia, NY/Livonia) also pitched.

David Trujillo was 3-for-3 with three RBI's for WPI, while John Flynn was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. WPI lashed 14 hits.

The Tigers finish their Spring trip on Friday with a doubleheader against Wentworth Institute of Technology at South Florida Community College at 10 a.m.
