ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT baseball team (4-4) defeated Cazenovia College (4-7) 4-2 and 5-1 in a double-header on Saturday afternoon at RIT Field.
In the first game, the Tigers got on the board in the third, with
Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) and
Ron Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) recording back-to-back singles.
Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) was hit by a pitch to fill the bases, before
Jon Meyer (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) drove in Bradley on a ground out.
Corey McEvoy (Hilton, NY/Hilton) drove in Canestro to give RIT a 2-0 lead.
RIT added to its lead in the fifth, with
Jaren Bell (Rochester, NY/Brighton) driving in two runs on a pinch-hit single. The Wildcats picked up two runs on four hits in the sixth to narrow the lead to 4-2, but a perfect seventh inning by
Tyler Leichtenberger (Warren, PA/Warren Area) gave the Tigers the win.
The second game saw the Tigers take a quick 4-0 lead in the first, behind a three-RBI double by
Greg Schworm (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili). Both Bell and Roman got on base with singles, before Meyer walked.
Brian Brazee (Auburn, NY/Auburn) singled to drive in Meyer, before Schworm roped a double to clear the bases.
Cazenovia scored its only run in the fourth, but the Tigers grabbed another run in the sixth, with
Matt Holtby (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) driving in Schworm.
Canestro had a tremendous game on the mound, striking out seven in four innings of work, and allowing just three hits.
Brad Wright (Baldswinville, NY/C.W. Baker) came in for an inning of relief before
Dan Schuster (Livonia, NY/Livonia) came in for the two-inning save.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, when they host Brockport at 12 p.m. at RIT Field.
