HAMILTON, NY – The RIT women's hockey team (4-4-1) had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped by Colgate University (3-7-1) by a score of 2-1 on Friday evening at Starr Rink. Taylor Volpe scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal with 8:25 left in regulation, breaking a 1-1 tie.
With RIT on the power play, passing back and forth between defenders at the top of the circles. Volpe read the pass and intercepted the puck. She deked the Chamberlain and shot low glove side to put the Raiders up 2-1.
Colgate (3-7-1) was led by Vople and Nicole Gass. Gass's goal tied the game at 1-1, grabbing her first of the season. Susan Allen made the start for the Raiders stopping 19 shots, including six big saves in the third period.

Colgate out-shot RIT, 31-19. The Raiders were 1-for-9 with the power-play, while RIT was 1-for-4.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes, RIT grabbed the lead just six minutes into the second period on a power play. The Tigers broke out of their own zone creating a scoring chance at the 6:26 mark. #
Celeste Brown (Great Falls, MT/National Sports Academy)# played the puck off the boards and found Hubert. Her wrist shot hit the crossbar and bounced in, giving them the 1-0 lead. #
Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets)# was also awarded an assist on the play.
Grigg now has a four-game point-scoring streak.
Less than three minutes later the Raiders equalized off a goal by Gass. Colgate was on the power play when Rachel Walsh passed to Megan Wickens from the corner. Wickens was waiting at the point and she went back and forth with Gass before they finally found an opening at net. Gass's hard shot sailed in past Chamberlain who was screened by Taulor Craig.
Colgate continued with high pressure on the Tigers, earning golden scoring opportunities in the last five minutes of the period. The Raiders chances came after Stephanie Giannopoulous' shot hit off the crossbar. A few minutes later Volpe had another shot saved. Colgate thought they had grabbed the lead when Wickens took a slap shot from the top of circle but yet again Chamberlain came up with the save. Volpe couldn't put in the rebound on Chamberlain who had fallen to the ground making the previous save.
Katie Case almost secured the win when she played Volpe in for another breakaway opportunity. This time Chamberlain was able to stop the puck before it went in with less than three minutes to play in the game.
RIT is right back in action on Saturday, as they welcome College Hockey America rival Syracuse to town for a 2:05 p.m. start. RIT will then travel to Syracuse to play the Orange on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
