Women's swimming and diving wins final event to pull out victory over Alfred

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT women's swimming and diving squad (2-1) trailed until the final event, but finished first and second in the 200-yard freestyle relay to pull out a dramatic 152-144 win over Alfred University (0-2) on Saturday afternoon at Judson Pool. The Tigers won six individual events plus the decisive relay on the afternoon.

Trailing 142-137, the team of #Caitlin Foster (Bath, ME/Morse)#, #Colleen Manning (Farmingdale, NY/St. Anthony's)#, #Alex Timberlake (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili)#, and #Katie Baldwin (Phelps, NY/Midlakes)# scored a decisive win by just over eight seconds in a time of 1:43.90. RIT's second group of #Jocelyn Bade (Gananda, NY/Gananda)#, #Krystal Mitich (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain)#, #Shannon Ryan (Round Rock, TX/Stony Point)#, and #Rose Rustowicz (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale)# defeated Alfred's top group by 48 hundredths of a second to secure the team win for RIT.

#Jenna Hoffman (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena)# and Foster won a pair of individual events apiece for the Tigers.

Hoffman annexed the 100-yard backstroke by just under a second in a time of 1:03.11, then took the 200-backstroke over Manning by just over two seconds in 2:20.42.

Foster won both distance freestyle events. She won the 1,000-free by just under four seconds in a time of 11:37.77, then won the 500-free by eight seconds in 5:40.49.

#Katie Baldwin (Phelps, NY/Midlakes)# won the 50-yard freestyle, leading a 1-2-3 RIT finish in the event. She won in a time of 25.01 seconds.

Ryan was victorious in the 200-yard breaststroke by just under three seconds in a time of 2:51.50.

Despite not winning either diving event, RIT finished second, third, and fourth in each to keep pace, points-wise with the Saxons. #Sam Huselstein (Olean, NY/Olean)# was RIT's highest scorer in both events. She was second in the 1-meter diving with a score of 201.25 and was also second in the 3-meter event with a score of 209.45.

Manning was a three-time runner up, while Jill Sirkis (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) placed second in a pair of events. Manning was the runner-up in the 200-freestyle, 200-backstroke, and 200-yard individual medley, while Sirkis was second in both the 200-fly and 100-fly.

The Tigers are right back in action on Saturday with a home meet against St. Lawrence that gets underway at 1 p.m.
