Havens' jumper in transition culminated a 16-4 RIT spurt and gave the Tigers a 16-12 lead at the 13:44 mark. However, the Cardinals would storm ahead thanks to a 14-0 run and would never relinquish the lead. Fisher would extend the lead with defense, keeping the Tigers without a field goal for over six minutes of play, and pushed the lead to 15 points.

Havens paced the Tigers with nine first half points.

RIT faced a 55-35 deficit with 13:21 remaining in the game, but refused to quit. Havens scored eight points during a 15-1 Tigers run over the next 7:51 to pull RIT within six points of the Cardinals. However, the Cardinals would pull away with late game execution and poise at the free throw line. Fisher would go 17-for-20 from the line, including knocking down 11 in a row, over the last five minutes to push the lead back to double digits.
