GENEVA, NY -- The RIT (0-1) women's basketball team was defeated by The University of Rochester (4-1) 80-53 in the first round of the 20th Annual Wendy's College Classic hosted by William Smith College on Tuesday evening.
The Tigers will face St. John Fisher on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. at SUNY Geneseo in the consolation round. The Yellowjackets advance to the semifinals.
Neither team shot the ball well in the first half, as RIT shot 34.2 percent from the floor on 10-of-26 shooting in the first half. Rochester went 13-of-38 (38.5%) from the floor.
The difference was rebounding, as Rochester out-rebounded the Tigers 30-10 in the first half, including 18 offensive boards.
The Tigers held a slim advantage early, jumping out to a 6-3 early lead. RIT spread the ball around early in the contest, as four different scorers scored for the Tiges.
Rochester came back with a 7-1 run, taking the lead on a bucket by Jackie Walker. The Yellowjackets increased the lead to eight points late in the half, leading 37-30 at the break.

The Tigers cut the lead down to five points early in the second half, but Rochester took control with a 16-2 run over the first seven minutes of the second half to take control of the game. The Yellowjackets led by as many as 21 points in the second half.

Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# broke the drought with a layup with 11:39 to play to cut the lead to 60-42. She finished with eight points.

RIT shot 41.7 percent from the floor on 20-of-48 shooting. They did shoot 10-of-22 in the second half. The Tigers made 1-of-4 from 3-point land and commited 24 turnovers.
