Erin Zach's short-handed goal in the third period lifts women's hockey to win at Brown



PROVIDENCE, RI -- Junior #Erin Zach (Elmira, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# scored a short-handed goal 1:55 into the third period, which proved to be the game winner, as the RIT women's hockey team (6-4-2) completed the weekend sweep of Brown University (1-7-0) with a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

It was Zach's third goal of the season and first game winner, as RIT completes the weekend sweep of the Bears. #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects)# scored the other Tigers goal, while #Emilee Bulleid (Waterdown, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres) and Danielle Read (Brantford, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks) added assists. (Woodstock, Ontario/Waterloo K-W Rangers)Laura Chamberlain (Norco, CA/LA Selects)# picked up her first win of the season, allowing one goal and making 25 saves.

Brown held a 26-20 shot advantage. The Tigers went 0-for-3 with the man advantage, while the Bears went 1-for-5 on the afternoon. Aubree Moore took the loss for Brown, allowing two goals and making 18 saves.

Kunichika gave RIT a 1-0 lead on her first goal of the season at 17:59 of the first period. Bulleid and Read had the assists on the play. It was Kunichika's first goal in the Division I era, and 36th of her career.

Laurie Jolin tied the game with a power play goal at 12:27 of the second period. Alena Polenska had the assist on the play.

The Tigers took the lead back early in the third period with RIT killing off a Brown Power Play. Zach was able to score the short-handed goal for the Tigers, the third short-handed goal scored by RIT this season.

Chanberlain and the Tigers defense took care of the rest, holding the Bears off the scoreboard for the next 18:05 to pick up the win. Chamberlain made 10 of her 26 saves in the third period. She picks up her 36th win of her career.

RIT returns to action on Tuesday, November 20 when the Tigers travel east down the New York State Thruway to take on Syracuse University at 7 p.m.
