FREDONIA, NY - The RIT volleyball team (16-8) dropped its first match on Friday at the Fredonia Invitational, falling to Westminster College (15-7) in three sets, then rebounded to defeat host Fredonia (11-10) in four sets later in the evening. Westminster won the three sets by scores of 25-8, 25-18, 25-18). RIT defeated Fredonia by scores of 25-12, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18 to earn the split.
RIT hit just .090 in the match against Westminster, including -.083 in the first set with nine hitting errors. Freshmen
Arielle Pariente (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) and
Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) led the way offensively in the match against Westminster with six kills apiece.
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) dished out 15 assists to go along with seven digs and a pair of service aces.
In the win over Fredonia, hit a much more respectable .240 and had 63 digs and 10 service aces.
Senior setter
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) returned from a six-match absence due to injury and excelled, dishing out 35 assists to go along with 14 digs. Worth also hit .583 with eight kills. Senior middle hitter
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) hit .526 with 10 kills to go along with a pair of blocks. Fellow seniors
Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) and
Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) slammed 10 kills apiece. Cooper also added 13 digs, six assists, and three service aces. Sophomore libero
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) led the way with 15 digs.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday morning with a match against D'Youville at 10 a.m. RIT will play a team to be announced later in the day either at 2 or 4 p.m. to wrap up play at the Fredonia Invitational.
