Women's soccer ties 1-1 at Fredonia State

FREDONIA, NY -- The RIT (10-5-1) women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie in non-conference action at Fredonia State (12-3-2) at University Stadium on Tuesday afternoono. Freshman Quincey Ornellas (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark) scored RIT's goal, while Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) made nine saves in net for the Tigers.

Ornellas scored at 11:36 off an assist from Jackie Jacobson (Westlake, CA/Westlake) to give RIT a 1-0 lead. Ornellas took a feed from Jacobson at the top of the Blue Devils penalty area, shielded off a defender and fired a low shot past Fredonia goalkeeper, Meaghan Meszaros for her fourth goal of the season.

The Tigers defense held strong until the 71st minute on a header by Katie Kleine. Madison Brown had the assist on the play.

Kleine nearly won the game for the Blue Devils in overtime, when she launched a 30-yard shot off the right goalpost with three minutes left in the second overtime.

RIT took 15 shots, including seven on net, while Fredonia State took 16 total shots and 10 on net. The Tigers took five corner kicks to four for the Blue Devils.

Murray improves to 9-5-1 on the season, allowing one goal and making nine saves. Meszaros finished with six saves for the Blue Devils.

RIT closes out the regular season on Saturday, September 27 when the Tigers host No. 4 Ithaca College at Tiger Stadium. Kick-off is at 11:30 am.
