ROCHESTER, NY --
The RIT women's basketball team (6-8, 2-3 Liberty League) was defeated by William Smith (6-7, 2-2 Liberty League) 68-61 on Tuesday evening.  The Herons closed the game on a 15-3 run.

Junior guard #Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)# picked up her third double-double of the season, finishing the game with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Sophomore #Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# grabbed a career-high 14 boards to go with 12 points, while #Jackie Hom (Newton, MA/Newton South)# chipped in with 10 points and two assists.  Kristen Kush led the way for William Smith with 14 points.

The Tigers led by as many as 11 early in the second half, but couldn't hold on.  The Herons chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the game 58-58 on a layup by Liz Douglass with 6:21 to play.  #Alex Kelley (Rochester, NY/Brighton)# regained the lead for RIT with two free throws just moments later, and gave the Tigers a three-point advantage with another free-throw at the 5:14 mark.  A layup by Erin O'Brian tied the contest for the final time, before a couple of quick layups by William Smith put the game out of reach.

RIT jumped out to a quick start, hitting its first four shots from the field, but couldn't pull away.  The Herons took a six point lead midway through the half off of a layup by O'Brian, their largest of the half.

The Tigers fought back, with Havens capping off an 8-0 run with a three-pointer just four minutes later, regaining the lead.  RIT closed the half on an 18-6 run to take a six point lead into the break.

RIT shot 23-for-64 form the field (35.9 %) while William Smith was 27-for-64 (42.4 %).  The Tigers outrebounded the Herons 50-35.  RIT had 22 turnovers to William Smith's 10.
