ELMIRA, NY -- The RIT women's lacrosse team improved to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in Empire 8 with a 12-10 win over Elmira College on Saturday. The Tigers were down by two goals at halftime, but rallied back to beat the Soaring Eagles with a strong second half. Sophomore #
Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport)# scored her 100th career point on Saturday, tallying five points on three goals and two assists.
The contest started out with back-and-forth goals, but the Tigers broke free after seven minutes and scored three straight goals for a 5-2 lead. Elmira rebounded and scored five straight to end the half.
The Tiger's defense stepped up to the challenge and kept the Soaring Eagles to only three goals in the second half. As a result, RIT had momentum during the final 25 minutes of the contest and outscored Elmira 6-2 en route to the 12-to-10 win.

Rebecca Lampson (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) who tallied five goals in the contest. Sophomore (Westwood, MA/Westwood)Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) contributed three goals and two assists while (Westwood, MA/Westwood)Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)# added a goal and two helpers.

Mary Kate Gellerman made 11 saves for the Soaring Eagles.
The Tigers return to action next Saturday on the RIT Turf Field against Empire 8 foe Utica College. The contest gets underway at 3:30 p.m.
